A chance to win the REAL Loch Ness Monster!

Loch Ness Monster spotted again!

29th August 2015

On 13th September 2015, a very special event is taking place in Loch Ness - a group of 6 swimmers will be swimming the full length of Loch Ness in relay, all 24 miles of it. One of those swimmers, Enrique Flores, is a good friend of mine, and he is raising money for COBI (Comunidad Y Biodiversidad AsociaciĆ³n Civil), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the conservation of marine biodiversity in coastal communities of Mexico. For more information about this amazing challenge, click here.

And so, for this special occasion (in which I shall be there in a cheer-leading capacity), I decided to make a special sculpture to be raffled off to raise money for this very important cause. I had such a giggle making this, and the idea took form in my head over the course of a few days. And I think this may finally solve the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster once and for all!

The REAL Loch Ness Monster!

As you can see, Nessie is actually a model made by the Quernus mice, and they have been successfully fooling people for years into believing there was a real monster living in Loch Ness! The mice usually wear snorkels and goggles, but now that they have decided to reveal themselves, they decided to leave those behind, because they're happy to parade Nessie about on someone's mantelpiece.

The sculpture is about 11cm tall and 13cm long. Nessie is supported by four wee mice, whose tails are strengthened by wire armature, and who are carrying Nessie aloft using wooden cocktail sticks. Nessie herself is wearing a rather fetching tartan bunnet made from a millefiori cane, with a fluffy red pom pom on top.

I'm donating The Real Loch Ness Monster as a raffle prize to raise money for Enrique's chosen charity. Each entry costs £2, and you can buy as many virtual tickets as you wish, so if you buy 5 tickets, you'll have 5 chances to win this unique sculpture.

To enter, just send £2 as a Paypal gift to kirsten@quernuscrafts.co.uk (sending it as a gift means no fees are deducted, so all the money goes straight to the charity). The raffle will remain open until Friday 11th September at 10pm BST, Any payments sent after this time will still be donated to charity, but won't be entered into the raffle draw.  I will notify the winner by email and post details here and on my Facebook page once I've made the draw and donated the raffle money to Enrique's JustGiving page.

***UPDATE*** 10th September 2015

I couldn't resist making this Wee Nessie, and she's going to be added to the raffle as the runner's up prize - yes, there will be two chances to win in this raffle draw, so it's definitely worth buying some tickets :)

Wee Nessie

Good luck and thank you!
